Residents at Beauleigh Court Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, welcomed the BBC on Monday 21 September to showcase a year of creativity, connection and intergenerational friendships with students from Belfairs Academy.
Over the past year, residents at Beauleigh Court have been working alongside students from Belfairs Academy on a series of collaborative art projects, bringing generations together through watercolour painting, sketching and creative activities. The partnership has provided opportunities for residents and students to share experiences, learn from one another and build meaningful relationships.
During the BBC’s visit, residents and students were captured working on artwork together, chatting and sharing pieces they had created throughout their time together. The visit highlighted the special connections that have developed between the residents and students, as well as the positive impact of the ongoing partnership.
The BBC’s visit follows the school’s involvement in a number of art projects at Beauleigh Court over the past year, with the partnership continuing to create opportunities for creativity, conversation and shared experiences. The final edited feature is set to appear on BBC News’ Rise and Shine slot.
Intergenerational projects play an important role in connecting people of different ages who may not otherwise have the opportunity to spend time together. For Beauleigh Court’s residents, working with students provides opportunities to share stories, experiences and knowledge, while enjoying new creative activities together.
For students, the partnership offers the chance to build relationships with an older generation, learn from their experiences and develop communication, confidence and empathy through shared activities.
The ongoing collaboration demonstrates how creativity can help bring communities together and create meaningful connections across generations.
