Eve Belle Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, has introduced a heartfelt Memory Tree initiative, helping residents nearing the end of their lives remain surrounded by messages, memories and love from the people who matter most.
The Memory Tree is a two-foot tree placed in the bedroom of a resident nearing the end of their journey. Family members, friends, visitors and members of the Eve Belle team are invited to write messages on cards, sharing treasured memories, funny stories, words of love and personal messages for the resident.
The cards gradually fill the tree, creating a visual collection of the people and memories that have shaped the resident’s life.
Where appropriate, the messages can also be read aloud to the resident, providing an opportunity to hear familiar names, stories and words of reassurance during their final days.
The initiative has already had a profound impact on one Eve Belle family. Following the recent passing of a much-loved resident, her family shared how meaningful the Memory Tree had been during her final days.
For the family, the tree became more than a thoughtful gesture. It created a collection of memories and messages that they could share with their mum and keep as a lasting reminder of her life and the people who loved her.
The team at Eve Belle believes that while nothing can take away the sadness of saying goodbye, small and meaningful gestures can help families create precious moments of connection during an incredibly difficult time.
The Memory Tree forms part of Eve Belle’s commitment to providing compassionate, person-centred care and ensuring residents feel valued, respected and surrounded by the people who matter most throughout every stage of their journey.
The Memory Tree is a simple reminder that love continues to surround a person, even in their final days — through the stories shared, the memories created and the people who will always remember them.
