A resident at Graysford Hall, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, in Leicester has celebrated an incredible milestone, marking his 104th birthday surrounded by family, friends and special guests.
Harold, who was born and raised on Lonsdale Street in Highfield, Leicester, celebrated his 104th birthday at Graysford Hall with around 20 members of his family and friends.
The special celebration included a delicious afternoon tea and a magician – a fitting choice for Harold, who had specifically requested the entertainment for his milestone birthday. The celebration was made even more memorable with a visit from the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Kulwinder Singh Johal, who joined Harold and his loved ones to mark the occasion.
Harold has lived a fascinating life and enjoyed a successful career as a master craftsman and pattern maker, before later becoming a woodwork teacher and sharing his skills and knowledge with others.
Family has always been an important part of Harold’s life. He met his wife, Betty, at a nurses’ dance at Leicester Royal Infirmary, and the couple went on to build a life together. Betty sadly passed away in June 2020, but Harold continues to hold her memory close to his heart.
Today, Harold is a proud father to one son and one daughter, and a grandfather to one granddaughter and two grandsons, who remain an important part of his life.
When asked what advice he would give to others hoping to reach such a remarkable age, Harold kept his words simple:
“Don’t drink, don’t smoke.”
He also shared his gratitude for the National Health Service, thanking those who have supported him throughout his life and helped him reach what he describes as his “ripe old age”. Harold also paid tribute to his beloved wife Betty and the support she gave him throughout their life together.
His 104th birthday was a wonderful opportunity for Harold to reflect on a long and fulfilling life, surrounded by the people who mean the most to him.
The team at Graysford Hall were delighted to help Harold celebrate this extraordinary milestone and wish him a very happy 104th birthday.
