Residents at Wilton Manor Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, enjoyed a fascinating and informative visit from Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, learning more about fire safety while getting the opportunity to meet local firefighters and explore a fire engine.
The special visit brought together residents, their families, friends and members of the Wilton Manor team for an engaging afternoon focused on safety and community. Firefighters spoke to residents about the measures in place to keep them safe within the home, explaining the fire safety features at Wilton Manor and how the emergency services would respond in the unlikely event of a fire.
Residents were also able to ask their own questions about life in the fire service, discovering that firefighters carry out a wide range of roles beyond responding to fires, including community education, prevention work and emergency rescues.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was the opportunity to get up close to the fire engine, with residents thoroughly enjoying the chance to look around the appliance. Even George, a resident’s visiting dog, joined in the excitement and came outside to see the fire engine.
Resident Margaret said:
“It is reassuring to know how safe we are if there was a fire and how quickly our Melton Mowbray branch of the fire service would respond.”
Louise Castilla, Lifestyle Lead at Wilton Manor, said:
““It was lovely to see how animated the residents were, seeing the fire engine and asking questions. Even George the dog, who was visiting a resident, came out to see what was going on. We all found it very interesting and it gave us a great appreciation for all that the fire service do.”
The visit provided not only valuable reassurance about fire safety but also an enjoyable opportunity for residents to engage with their local emergency service and learn more about the people who help protect their community.
