Residents from Wilton Manor Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, recently enjoyed a day out on the water thanks to an accessible canal boat trip provided by Mosaic 1898.

The special outing began at The Hope and Anchor in Syston, where residents boarded the fully adapted canal boat for a relaxing journey along the water towards Birstall. Designed to ensure accessibility for all, the boat featured wheelchair access and an onboard lift, allowing residents with reduced mobility to comfortably take part and enjoy the experience alongside everyone else.

During the trip, residents were able to take in the beautiful canal-side scenery, spend quality time socialising, and even enjoy a turn steering the boat, an experience that proved to be a real highlight for many. To make the day even more special, the group also enjoyed freshly prepared fish and chips from Birstall Fisheries, which they shared together onboard as they travelled.

Residents described the experience as incredible and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the day.

Seven residents from Wilton Manor took part in the trip, accompanied by members of the care home team. The day was made possible by Mosaic 1898, a company dedicated to providing accessible canal boat experiences so that people of all mobility levels can enjoy time on the water.

For residents who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility, accessible outings such as this are especially valuable, ensuring that everyone can participate fully without barriers. At Wilton Manor, creating joyful and enriching experiences for residents is an important part of everyday life.

The canal boat trip was a perfect example of how thoughtful, inclusive activities can bring happiness, confidence, and connection, while creating unforgettable moments for everyone involved.

Trevor Pears, Resident at Wilton Manor, said:

“What a lovely day I’ve had! It was nice to sit with Roy, Brian and David at the front of the boat and talk about the canal and where we were. I feel truly honoured to be able to do things like this still and I owe that to Louise. All of the trips and activities that Louise and Eloise organise are just brilliant, we really are lucky to have them both.”
