Louise, Lifestyle Lead at Wilton Manor Care Home, part of Sanders Senior Living Group,, has been named runner-up in the prestigious Everyone Active: Let’s Get Moving Hero Award at a celebratory awards event held on Friday 23rd January.
Louise was nominated in recognition of her outstanding dedication to supporting residents at Wilton Manor to live with dignity while enjoying an active, engaging and fulfilling lifestyle. Through her work, she leads a wide range of inclusive, chair-based and physical activities, including yoga and tai chi, ensuring that residents of all abilities can participate and benefit from movement and wellbeing initiatives.
In addition to her in-house activity programme, Louise has built strong partnerships with local schools, creating meaningful intergenerational opportunities such as dancing and gardening sessions with children from the local community. These initiatives have helped strengthen social connections, reduce isolation and bring joy to residents, families and visitors alike.
Emma, who nominated Louise for the award, said:
“She enhances the life of residents but also encourages the families and visitors to enjoy the exercise sessions and walks.”
The Everyone Active Let’s Get Moving Hero Award celebrates individuals who make a significant positive impact through promoting movement, wellbeing and connection. Louise’s recognition highlights the importance of meaningful, accessible physical activity in care settings and the vital role lifestyle professionals play in enhancing quality of life, independence and emotional wellbeing for residents, while also strengthening relationships with families and the wider community.
This award shines a spotlight on the powerful role inclusive movement, social connection and intergenerational engagement play in supporting physical health, emotional wellbeing and dignity in later life. Louise’s work demonstrates how thoughtful, person-centred activity programmes can transform care environments into vibrant, connected communities.
Louise shared her appreciation for the award:
“I feel incredibly grateful and honoured to be recognised, but what really matters to me is knowing that the work I do makes a difference to residents and their families. Supporting people to stay active, confident and mobile, whether that’s through group activities like yoga and tai chi, or something as simple as encouraging someone to take one extra step, is so important to their wellbeing and independence.
I’m very thankful for the trust and support I’ve had from my manager, the families who join in and encourage their loved ones, and the wonderful organisations and schools we work with. Being able to create meaningful, inclusive activities that help people enjoy life and feel connected is what makes this role so special to me.”
