On the 3rd October, The Belmont care home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, welcomed the Worcester Fire Station crew for a special visit, following their recent connection during Emergency Services Day. After the care home team had delivered treats to the fire station, it was time for the firefighters to visit The Belmont, meet the residents, and take a tour of the home.

The event kicked off with the arrival of the fire truck, much to the excitement of the residents. The crew was warmly welcomed inside by the Customer Relations Manager (CRM), Carla Sidaway, and invited to sit down for a cup of tea. The residents eagerly chatted with the firefighters, asking them about life in the fire service, the challenges they face, and how busy they get. The conversation flowed both ways, with the firefighters learning about life at The Belmont, forming a real bond with the community.

After the tea and conversations, the crew was given a tour of the home. They had the chance to meet more residents and see the wonderful facilities that The Belmont offers. Following the tour, everyone gathered outside to explore the fire truck, where the crew demonstrated their various pieces of equipment, explaining their vital functions. The highlight of the day was when Mary, one of the residents, had the chance to try on a fire helmet, bringing a big smile to her face.

The firefighters were then thanked for their visit, and after some heartfelt goodbyes, they made their way to Abberley House Nursery, where the children were eagerly waiting for their turn to see the fire truck. The kids were thrilled, making the visit a day of joy for both the residents and the little ones.

This event was special for The Belmont residents, providing them with an opportunity to engage with local heroes and enjoy a memorable experience. It also strengthened ties between the home and the community, spreading joy beyond The Belmont’s walls.

Carla Sidaway, Customer Relations Manager, at The Belmont, expressed her delight about the day:

“This was a great morning for our residents. They were filled with excitement when they found out the fire service were coming with the truck and eagerly awaited their arrival! They enjoyed sitting with a cup of tea and speaking with them and especially enjoyed the tour of the truck! We look forward to seeing them again for another visit soon!”

Tristan Lockyer, Watch Commander for Green Watch, expressed his appreciation after visiting The Belmont. He noted that it was a pleasure to meet the residents and take part in a detailed tour of the home. Lockyer was particularly impressed with the high level of care provided to the residents and highlighted the importance of the tour in helping his team familiarise themselves with the property, should they ever need to respond to an incident there.

The Belmont Care Home looks forward to continuing its relationship with the local fire service, fostering connections that bring joy and security to the residents.
