The Belmont care home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, marked Remembrance Day in a special way this year, with residents and visitors coming together to support the Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal. Care Team Leader at The Belmont, Lisa Joyner, took the initiative to create and knit beautiful poppy brooches, which were sold to raise funds for this important cause. The event, held on 11th November 2024, saw a wonderful display of creativity and community spirit, with the brooches raising £60 for the RBL.
Lisa, inspired by conversations with the residents about Remembrance Day, wanted to make something meaningful that could be worn in honour of those who served. She used her knitting talents to create these unique brooches, each one representing a symbol of remembrance and gratitude.
Residents of The Belmont were thrilled to be able to purchase these handcrafted poppies, and the event brought a sense of connection and pride to everyone involved. The proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Royal British Legion, supporting the charity’s ongoing work for the armed forces community.
Lisa Joyner, Care Team Leader at The Belmont, shared her thoughts on the event:
“My inspiration for knitting the poppies came from a conversation I had with a group of residents. I have always acknowledged Remembrance Day, and after seeing how animated the residents were about the poppies, I decided to donate them to the home so they could raise funds for the RBL.”
Stephanie Howard, Home Manager at The Belmont, praised Lisa’s initiative:
“The poppies knitted by Lisa brought so much joy to our residents at The Belmont! It was wonderful to have them available for our residents and visitors to buy, with all proceeds going to such a great cause. We are very lucky to have such a talented Care Team Leader here!”
The Belmont’s Resident Brenda also shared her appreciation:
“I thought the poppies were great, she did very well! Raising £60 was fantastic; I imagine it was hard work to knit all those poppies. We really liked them!”
This initiative at The Belmont is a great example of how the care home community comes together to honour the sacrifices of others while fostering a sense of achievement and pride among its residents. The team at The Belmont looks forward to continuing their support of charitable causes and creating more meaningful experiences for their residents in the future.
