Graysford Hall, part of the Sanders Senior Living group, celebrated Emergency Services Day on Monday, 9th September, with a visit from Leicester Central Fire Station. The day was filled with excitement and gratitude as both residents and staff welcomed local firefighters for an engaging and educational afternoon.

The event began with an insightful talk delivered by the firefighters, who shared the inner workings of their daily routines, their roles in the community, and the specialised equipment they use in emergency situations. Residents were encouraged to ask questions, and they eagerly took the opportunity to learn more about these everyday heroes.

Following the talk, the firefighters joined the residents for Graysford Hall’s renowned afternoon tea, complete with an array of delicious cakes. As they mingled and shared stories, the firefighters also demonstrated some of their vital equipment, including a thermal camera and cutting devices used during rescue missions. The afternoon’s atmosphere was filled with curiosity and camaraderie, with the firefighters even agreeing to return for a friendly match of carpet bowls—a challenge proposed by the residents!

To conclude the day, a small group of residents ventured outside to the car park for a hands-on experience with the fire engines. They explored the vehicles, learned more about their functions, and, as resident Barry eagerly requested, were treated to the sound of the sirens—a highlight of the day for many.

The event provided a meaningful opportunity for the residents to express their gratitude to the firefighters for their ongoing service to the community while fostering stronger relationships with local emergency services.

Chelsea, Graysford Hall’s concierge, expressed her delight at the success of the day:
“The residents were so engaged and happy. The atmosphere was so friendly and full of energy—it was a wonderful day for everyone involved.”

Resident Barry, still buzzing from the afternoon’s excitement, added:
“I just wanted to hear the sirens! It was amazing to see the fire engines up close. I can’t wait for their next visit.”

Graysford Hall looks forward to continuing its relationship with the local fire station and remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities for residents to connect with the community. Emergency Services Day was a perfect reminder of the importance of appreciating those who work tirelessly to keep us safe.
