Claridge Place Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, recently welcomed students from Archbishop Ilsley School for a special intergenerational reading event that left lasting smiles and heartwarming memories for all involved.
Held on 24th September, the visit brought young students into the home to read with residents, including one resident living with dementia who not only read aloud to the students but also engaged in a thoughtful Q&A about the story. Another resident even joined in a short play, making the experience lively and inclusive.
The event was organised by Terri, Customer and Community Engagement Assistant, and overseen by Michelle, Lifestyle Coordinator, both of whom are passionate about fostering meaningful connections between Claridge Place and the wider community.
Terri shared:
“It was such an amazing experience. The interaction between our residents and the students was truly special. Our residents have meaning full conversation, it takes them back to a time in their lives that was so happy. It also allows our residents living with dementia to do something they wouldn’t usually.”
One standout moment was when a resident living with dementia read a story to the visiting students which was a powerful and moving interaction that had both students and staff deeply engaged.
The atmosphere throughout the event was described as amazing and meaningful, with residents sharing stories, laughter, and genuine connections with the younger generation.
Claridge Place has arranged for two local schools to visit. The staff witness the positive impact these visits have on residents, and it brings energy and warmth into the home.
Claridge Place looks forward to continuing this meaningful partnership with local schools, enriching the lives of residents through moments of shared learning, conversation, and joy.
