On Thursday, 12th December, staff from The Belmont care home in Worcester, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, brought festive cheer to the Riverbank Children’s Ward at Worcester Royal Hospital. The visit was led by Mark Owen – Lifestyle Coordinator, dressed as Santa, with Stephanie Howard – Home Manager, and Carla Sidaway – Customer Relations Manager accompanying him as Santa’s helpers and elves.
The team arrived at the hospital to a warm welcome, with excited faces lighting up the halls as they walked through. Santa and his elves handed out chocolate Santa lollipops to children, families, and even staff, spreading happiness and laughter throughout the hospital.
The highlight of the visit was meeting the children in the ward, including one young patient who was meeting Santa for the very first time. The joy and excitement were palpable as Santa made time to interact with each child, making their day a little brighter. The team also visited the intensive care unit to bring Christmas cheer to a special young boy, whose happiness at meeting Santa was a moving and memorable moment for everyone.
In addition to bringing joy to the children, the team presented a hamper of treats to the hardworking hospital staff, showing gratitude for their dedication and care during the festive season.
Carla Sidaway, Customer Relations Manager at The Belmont, shared her thoughts on the experience:
“It was so special to be able to visit the lovely children and staff on Riverbank Ward. Being asked to visit the ICU was truly touching. Seeing the smiles and laughter as we walked through the hospital brought us so much joy, and we felt honoured to bring a slice of happiness to everyone.”
Stephanie Howard, The Belmont’s Home Manager, added:
“It was an honour to be part of this visit. Seeing the joy on the children’s faces and the appreciation from staff and visitors was incredibly moving. Being invited to the ICU was an emotional and proud moment for us, knowing we could make a difference during such a special time of year.”
Mark Owen, Lifestyle Coordinator at The Belmont, reflected on his role as Santa:
“I thoroughly enjoyed dressing as Santa and bringing smiles to the children at the hospital. Interacting with them was heartwarming, and I felt privileged to be part of this experience. Even driving the minibus and waving to people on the way there was fantastic. I can’t wait to do this again!”
This heart-warming visit underscores The Belmont’s commitment to community engagement and spreading joy, especially during the festive season. By reaching out to children and staff at the hospital, they created lasting memories and shared the spirit of Christmas with those who needed it most.
