Residents, staff and visitors at Beauleigh Court Care Home, part of the Sanders Senior Living Group, took part in a comprehensive fire evacuation simulation on 12 June 2026, working alongside Essex County Fire and Rescue Service to test emergency preparedness and reinforce vital fire safety procedures.
The exercise was carefully planned to ensure the home’s fire detection systems, emergency response procedures and evacuation protocols were thoroughly assessed in a safe and controlled environment. The event also provided an opportunity to transform what could be perceived as a daunting situation into an engaging and educational experience for everyone involved.
As part of the simulation, Maintenance Operative Jon activated a smoke machine inside a vacant room. The smoke was successfully detected by the room’s smoke detector, triggering the fire alarm system exactly as intended. Staff immediately implemented the home’s emergency procedures, allowing the team to evaluate response times, escalation processes and evacuation management in line with Beauleigh Court’s fire safety policy.
The simulation involved residents, staff, visitors and representatives from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, who provided support and guidance throughout the exercise.
The event highlighted Beauleigh Court’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of resident safety and ensuring staff remain fully prepared to respond promptly and effectively in the event of a genuine emergency.
Following the successful completion of the exercise, residents and staff enjoyed a well-earned barbecue prepared by the home’s talented catering team. The gathering provided an opportunity for everyone to relax, reflect on the day’s activities and spend time getting to know members of the local fire service.
Resident Liz praised the event, saying: “The day was very different. You really went all out, and it was good to see how an actual evacuation would work. I think we would be prepared if there really was a fire. And the food was delicious!”
Care Assistant Mel B added: “Today was a really nice opportunity for us all to come together and know how to react in a situation you would never expect. I am confident after today that we can keep our residents safe.”
The event demonstrated Beauleigh Court’s proactive approach to safety, ensuring residents can feel reassured that robust procedures are in place to protect them while creating a supportive and informed community environment.
